South Coast – Villas in Sri Lanka

Home to some of the most picturesque villas in Sri Lanka, the south coast of Sri Lanka is a wonderful holiday destination that’s growing in popularity with international visitors every year.

Birds and beasts roam wild and free in national parks of southern Sri Lanka and rolling seas slow down to lap against soft sandy beaches. In this article, we explore some of the main tourist highlights in South Sri Lanka.

Places to Visit in the South of Sri Lanka

  • Mirissa
  • Yala National Park
  • Galle

Despite its rising popularity, Mirissa has somewhat retained its inherent air of tranquility. Mirissa beach is a crescent shaped stretch of silky sand flanked by elegant coconut trees. You’ll find some of the coziest villas in Sri Lanka within a few minutes of Mirissa beach and a few select beach front properties. If you visit Mirissa between November and April, you can join a whale watching tour to spot these giants of the sea up close and personal. The slow-paced life of Mirissa is ideal for a quiet beach holiday with plenty of rest, good food and a dash of local culture.

Yala National Park

If you love stealthy leopards, Yala National Park is your best bet at spotting one or more. Yala is made up of patches of grassland where elephants sometimes graze, dry woodlands, sandy beaches, lagoons, thorn forests and even rock pools where crocodiles pretend to slumber. Much of Yala is close to the public but the accessible areas are rich in wildlife including radiantly hued birds like the indigenous jungle fowl.

A visit to the South of Sri Lanka will not be complete without a stopover in Galle. The Galle Dutch Fort calls visitors to explore it on foot. There is much to see from Dutch architecture, dazzling views of the Indian Ocean and artistic boutique stores and restaurants. The Galle fish market, Unawatuna and Jungle beaches are some of the other popular attractions in the area. Galle beckons visitors to slow down and savour each and every moment spent in its rich and colourful environs.
